9-Year-Old Girl Fighting for Life After Hit and Run Incident: Join the Fight to Help Journey Heal!

On November 19, 2022, 9-year-old Journey Nicholas was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene as she crossed the street with her aunt and two siblings. This was on 7th street in Victorville, California. The incident was confirmed in a previous VVNG article.

Journey was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and has been in a fight for her life ever since. It took four hours for Journey’s mother, Adona Nicholas, to see her daughter at the hospital, as she had to drive to the scene of the accident and pick up her children before heading to the hospital. 

Journey’s mother, Adona Nicholas, described the night of the incident as a blur, not understanding how she was able to pick up her other two children from the scene and drive to the hospital in an emotional state. She says that it was the “scariest hours of my life,” as she feared the worst. 

“I walked in and I was taken back, and my first sight of my daughter was so hard I hit the ground,” Adona shared. 

Just twelve hours after a hit-and-run collision, law enforcement apprehended Seth Moeller (age 19 of Oro Grande) for the felony offense of fleeing from an accident that resulted in injury. Additionally, he was taken into custody on outstanding warrants concerning driving without a license; this is according to previous media reports by VVNG.

According to the law in California, anyone who leaves the scene of an accident in which there is property damage or personal injury may be charged with a felony hit-and-run. The seriousness of the charge depends on the severity of the injury or damage.

Journey was not just an innocent bystander; she had big dreams and goals. Adona shared with her mom that she aspired to be a dance teacher.

“She isn’t done with her dreams yet,” Adona said. “We are determined and hopeful that she will make it out of this horrible event back into my arms and back to her dreams.”

Injuries Journey Sustained from the Incident

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors informed Adona that Journey had sustained multiple injuries due to the incident, including a fractured skull on the left side of her head, a collapsed lung, and swelling to her brain. She also suffered a bleeding spleen, two broken thighs, and damage to her brain stem. As devastating as the news was, Journey’s mother still held out hope. 

Journey’s Prior Accomplishments

Prior to her hit-and-run incident, Journey was a highly accomplished dancer. She had recently won first place in two categories during a dance convention and had aspirations of becoming a dance teacher one day.

Journey’s mother shared that her daughter is a warrior princess, saying that she had already overcome many odds prior to the incident. “I know my girl is a fighter and I know she will pull it out,” Adona said. She started a hashtag, “#JourneyStrong,” to rally support for her daughter.

Update on Journey

Currently, Journey is still in critical condition, with doctors keeping a close eye on her. Her family is still trying to maintain as much hope and positivity as possible.

“The first 12 hours were the scariest hours in my whole entire life. Then, we wanted to make 72 hours only, then 96 hours and now today we are on day 10!!,” stated Adona. It’s now been a month since the accident, with Journey still fighting for her life.

The community of Victorville, California has been rallying around Journey and her family since the incident. Adona expressed her appreciation on social media for all of those that have reached out, shared words of encouragement, provided prayers, and donated towards Journey’s medical expenses.
